Weekly Update: June 24, 2018

Hello Robina Families,

We are really filling up our last days of school with activities, awards & events for our students to enjoy and an opportunity for them to do a final wrap up in the classroom!  We have included many photos of some of the activities that happened this week, but please join us for our final year-end assembly when we look back on memories of the year and say farewell to our Grade 4s! Parents and families are invited - Wednesday, June 27 at 1 pm.

Our Kindergarten kids had their last day of school on Friday! We wish them all a fantastic summer and look forward to seeing them as grade one students in the fall.

Thank You, Volunteers!

We had our volunteer appreciation "Muffin Morning" to let our volunteers know how much we appreciated them.  We shared this video:

National Indigenous People Day

We were so fortunate to have a drumming and singing presentation by students from Ben Calf Robe school in Edmonton to help us celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day! We were able to participate in a large round dance. We would like to send out a huge thank you to a couple of our RBES parents -- Jasmine Fouilliard and Michelle Houle for helping to organize this event! For more photos and videos click here.

BGRS Track Awards

On Thursday we handed out our BGRS Track Meet certificates and awards!  Our Raptors did an amazing job!

Monday is Fun Day!

We are excited to be holding our annual Fun Day on Monday!  The students will be participating in 15 different activities including Lego building, scavenger hunt, Frisbee games, sack races, ladder golf, chalk drawing and so much more!

Swimming This Week!

We will be swimming this week so please have your permission forms completed by Monday morning!

NEXT YEAR SCHOOL SUPPLIES

It does seem too soon to be talking about school supplies for next year - but you could win $1000 if you order your school supplies before the end of June!  Details are available on our website.  You will also find information on our website about a new program offered to Robina Baker to provide families in need with school supplies for next year.

STAFFING UPDATE:

As with every end of school year our Robina staff undergoes some changes as people move on to other chapters in their life. This year we have three retirees. We would like to send out BEST WISHES and CONGRATULATIONS to Mrs. Chiesa, Miss Betty and Mrs. Ostonal (who actually finished a couple of months ago) as they say farewell to the work world and hello to retirement. The school will not be the same without seeing Mrs. Chiesa in the office or hearing Miss Betty whistle in the hallways while she works. Luckily we get to see Mrs. Ostonal every once in awhile as she has decided to sub on a part time basis. Mrs. K. Forchuk and her family are moving from the Devon community and so we won't be seeing her in the fall and the PK team is going to have a tough time filling her shoes. Mr. Van Huis is transferring to Covenant Christian so that he can be closer to his family. We will miss all of you very much and as always it is hard to say goodbye, however, you will always be in our hearts.

The RBES staff would like to welcome Ms. Ouellette who will be taking over Mrs. Chiesa's role in the office. Some of you may have already spoken with her on the phone as she has been in this past week doing some training. We look forward to getting to know her in the coming months. She has worked for Black Gold in the past, but has spent the last 3 years in Montreal. Welcome to Devon and RBES Ms. Ouellette!!

ENROLLMENT AND CLASS LISTS:

RBES enrollment has been fluctuating up and down over the last few weeks which makes fall planning tricky to say the least. We will be finalizing staffing decisions, class lists and the number of classes at each grade level in the next couple of days. If the student numbers continue to change as they have been, there will be some movement and changes in our class lists and structures in the fall after the first day of classes. We thank you for your patience as we work through this challenging dynamic.

Summer & September!

We would like to wish you all a fantastic summer and look forward to seeing everyone again in September!  You will receive a letter from your child's new teacher by email in August.  The first day of school is Tuesday, September 4! If you have any questions or concerns during the summer please contact Mrs. Kloschinsky by email: kathy.kloschinsky@blackgold.ca. She will be checking her email daily in the first two weeks of July and last two weeks of August and will be checking weekly in the middle summer months.

Weekly Update: June 17, 2018

Hello Robina Families,

Happy Fathers Day to all of our Robina Dads! We all wish you a fabulous day tomorrow to celebrate your beautiful role in your children's lives. There were many Father's Day crafts around the building this past week and a couple teachers ventured a little further and invited some dads in for some activities.

CAMP WARWA:

Whew! This last part of the year is really zipping by quickly. Our grade fours are nearing their final days at Robina and celebrated by making some great memories at Camp Warwa. From all reports they had a fantastic time despite a bit of rain. Here is a small sample of the fun they had. Click on this link for even more pictures: https://goo.gl/Be9tKa Thank you to everyone who shared pictures with us! We would like to send out a big thank you to our Grade 4 teachers for organizing the trip and to all of our parent volunteers!

FRIDAY ASSEMBLY:

We are working through the Perseverance theme this month. The students were delighted by a surprise cheer performance. The four students that came from the Outlawz Cheer team shared how hard they had to work to accomplish their goals and gave some examples of some of the skills they have learned as part of their club. Some of our students took home business cards as they thought they might like to try this next year. If you are interested, please contact Amanda MacGregor (information is in the picture collage below).

Hello Robina Families:

I hope that you are all enjoying the Devon Days weekend! It was nice to see so many families along the parade route. Thank you to Mrs. Forchuck and Mrs. Tewitz for organizing the float!  Also a huge shout out and thank you to Mr. Forchuk for driving the float.

DOES LEARNING GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS?

Our ECS students have an opportunity to do Nature School in the river valley over the next few days. Ms. Garlough took both of her classes on Friday to kick things off. Both her students and Mrs. Waters classes will have more time to learn in the river valley this coming week. The students all had a great time and were soooo engaged and maybe a little muddy! :)

DRAMA PERFORMANCE!!

GRADE THREE BAKE SALE FOR WATER

When the Grade Threes were learning about Tunisia they learned that many children in Tunisia have to walk many miles to get clean water every day. It started a discussion about what they could do to help and ended with an idea to have a Bake Sale.  All monies raised will go to water.org - a non profit organization started 25 years ago by Gary White and Matt Damon with a mission to bring water and sanitation to the world.  Students will be able to purchase the baking (provided by the Grade 3 families) during the morning and lunch recesses on Tuesday and Wednesday - all items will be $1.

Volunteer Appreciation June 19

If you have ever volunteered at the school - in the classroom or on a field trip this year we invite you to pop into the school on your way to work or as you drop your child off at school.  We will have coffee and muffins and would like to just say thank you!

FREE SWIM TIME!

On the last week of school, most classes will be taking part in Free Swim.  It is a fun time for students to just enjoy the pool - there are no lessons just free time swimming - and it is free!  Please complete your permission form before June 22.

The library is now closed for the year! Please look around your home and return any library books you find. This will help Ms. Caudron immensely with library inventory! Thank you!!

Weekly Update: June 3, 2018

Hello Robina Families,

We have finished another successful year of swimming lessons (although a tad bit cool and rainy this past week). The students were great little troopers for the most part and were active participants in their lessons despite the dreary weather. Here's a teaser of some great photos . . . more to come in the yearbook! Don't forget to order yours now . . . we have extended the deadline to Monday, June 4th! Just go to PowerSchool and add it to your cart!

GIDDY-UP, YEE-HAW, HOWDY PARTNER . . .

Western Day at RBES was so much fun! Check out all this great school spirit!

There were a few field trips that were enjoyed this week, but the highlight was the Newsies Production put on by JMHS. The grade 1-4 students really loved the live theatre production at the community centre. We would like to send out a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS and a job well done to all of the High School Drama students. I think a few of our students are inspired to consider joining Drama in the future.

KLONDIKE RELAY AWARDS:

Congratulations to our Klondike Relay Team! Certificates were handed out to all team members at the Grade 3/4 assembly. A few of our athletes placed in the top 10 in their event. We are so proud of them all!

Our theme this month is Perseverance. It is the perfect theme for June. Many of our students have worked hard all year and June is usually when they all start to get tired and want to be done and just enjoy summer. We talk about how we just need to keep trying a little while longer.  Here is our assembly agenda from this past week: JUNE 1 AGENDA. Our Grade 4s did a Perseverance presentation today! DISTRICT TRACK AND FIELD MEET ON FRIDAY, JUNE 8

All the students who are participating in the district track and field event are practicing hard during recess. If you have said that you will be helping out for the meet on Thursday, please come to Robina Baker to help us walk over to Riverview Middle School at 9 am. (The rainout day will be Tuesday, June 12) Go Raptors! **Please note: If you already ordered RBES Hot Lunch it will be delivered to you at the Track Meet. If you ordered RMS Hot Lunch for Track Meet Day -- it will be delivered through their concession. Either way, your Hot Lunch order will come to you!

We ask that all students dress in layers: Raptor t-shirt / Turquoise Blue Shirt (if they don’t have one, we have some to lend out for the day), shorts, hoodie, yoga pants or sweatpants, a hat and bring a jacket or raincoat in their backpack. All students must run in proper footwear -- no flip flops or sandals. We have been encouraging students to use their indoor running shoes if they don’t have an outdoor pair to ensure no one gets hurt when participating. If it is a super hot day, please send sunscreen with your child as well.

All parents are invited to attend to come and watch. If you plan to come to watch for the whole day, please consider volunteering to supervise. We currently have just over 120 students on the team and this requires lots of extra sets of hands to keep everyone organized, on time for events and supervised throughout the day. We will all walk over around 9:00 am and the events start at 9:45 am. We usually finish around 2:00 pm and head back after our last group of students finish competing. If you are interested in volunteering, please fill out the google form at this link:
